Coney Island... Develop, Don't Destroy
The Daily News has two articles on development plans for Coney Island. "Advance to Boardwalk!" describes "a cross between Las Vegas and Disneyland" while "Deals may maul Coney faves" begins to outline how Thor Equities is shuddering some shops already. Fuck what City Councilman Domenic Recchia thinks, I wanna know what Dick Zigun has to say about these plans...
Richard Snow said it best when he said that Coney Island has always been a home to "the odd, the bizarre, the far-flung." In the past, at the turn of the last century, that surreality expressed itself as a luminous, magical thing. Today, it's a vibrant, post-modern Vaudevillian romp. Las Vegas and Disneyland (as great as they may be) aren't quite the same thing.
